A rare hope for dialysis patients
I received really
exciting news this week which indicates there is still a chance for thousands of
dialysis patients like me to get off dialysis without a kidney transplant.
Sometime in June, a retired doctor and his wife came to visit me one Sunday
morning after reading my column that the moringa (malunggay) drink has greatly
improved my health and amazed my doctors.
The good doctor told me that
he has been on dialysis for more than a year and wanted to know if the moringa
drink could help him. I told the doctor that while my blood works are now better
and I am more energetic than before my kidneys still do not work. I suggested to
him that he tries the moringa drink considering that he has been on dialysis for
less than 2 years. In my case I have been on dialysis for 8 years now and it
might take a longer time for my kidneys to work again.
Puring, the
doctor’s wife, who is a nurse, signed up as a distributor and ordered 6 cases of
the moringa drink.
Well, Puring called last Sunday to tell me the
exciting news that the doctor’s kidneys have started to function again because
for the past three weeks he has started to pee which he has not done for over a
year!
She told me that her husband’s blood works are good and she is now
monitoring his progress to see if his creatinine would go down indicating that
his kidneys have recovered and he can be off dialysis. She said that the doctor
is now taking 2 cans of Zija daily.
What Puring told me has really gotten me
excited because right now there is no known cure for renal failure. The only way
for dialysis patients to get off dialysis is through a kidney transplant and
which is a long shot. It is hard to get a donor and if a kidney is indeed
available there is a long list of kidney patients waiting in line. To be picked
as the recipient of a kidney is like winning the lotto which is one of 22
million chances.
There are now thousands of dialysis patients. The
hospital where I have my dialysis treatments is packed all the time and it no
longer accepts new patients unless there is a vacancy meaning a patient has
died.
I have not given up hope that someday I will be off dialysis
either thru a kidney transplant or a miracle from God.
When doctors tell
me that there is no cure yet for kidney failure I do not pay attention to it
because I believe that God is the ultimate doctor and healer. If He can make a
dead person rise He can do the same to a mere kidney.
Who knows moringa
might be the answer. The scientists who did the medical research on moringa call
it the miracle tree or plant.
“It is truly a gift from God,” according
to Dr. Russ Biancchi, the formulator of the moringa drink.
I used to take
only a can of moringa a day. Now I take 2 cans. Who knows the extra can and
prayers to the Almighty will do it.
Joel Osteen, my favorite television
preacher, always tells his viewers “just stay in faith and God will just
surprise you.”
Last August 19 was my eight year as a dialysis patient. I
have lived on borrowed time all these years and I thank God for keeping me
alive. Each day God gives me means a miracle could still happen.
When
the day will come that I will be off dialysis with or without a transplant it
will be a testimony of His awesome powers and goodness.
I have not
revealed the name of the doctor whose kidneys have started to work again thanks
to the moringa drink. I do not want him to be swamped with calls but I have the
permission of Puring to give her number in case anyone wants to talk to her
husband. They live in Toms River, NJ.
By the way, Puring told me that
her husband’s vision has greatly improved. They also attribute this to the
moringa drink. I learned that the doctor now wants to do the driving at night
but she still feels safer being the driver especially at night.

Dear Q Relatives,
My name is Andy Quisumbing.
Mabuhay and Greetings!
For some of us, a story telling of our
Quisumbing past may be a difficult task.
A good result of a litmus
test is when our children listen, yet produce no sparkles in their eyes.
Perhaps one explanation is that our struggle for a clearer vision of the
Quisumbing past often gets entangled in the messiness of our hard fought
memories.
Two extraordinary Quisumbing ladies have reinvented the
solution and corrected that small problem in an old fashioned way. They’re
coming out with a book. Cora Quisumbing-King and Chuchi Quisumbing Luspo
Constantino of the Honorato Quisumbing line will release the HQ book this
December. The book focuses on the Honorato Line. However, Chuchi
mentions that the “Honorato siblings and half siblings are very well represented
- not only with family photos but family notes and stories as
well.”
Finally, we now have a book through which we can take a good
glimpse of the different generations of some Lolo/Lola Quisumbings and their
families. Their stories and photos can definitely add more perspective,
connection and color to our very own Quisumbing family picture. And I’m
sure the added collage of information from this book will change for the better
your appreciation of the newly formed Quisumbing mosaic. Our two-lady
relatives are doing this out of love for all the Quisumbings. Their desire
to preserve the Quisumbing heritage is very noble and in today’s Olympic spirit
and language, just simply awesome. Many thanks to Cora and Chuchi.
Through their new book, the Quisumbing world gets smaller. It really is
with great pride and joy to share with you this great news.
The $61 book
is being printed in Cebu. Chuchi and Cora originally ordered 100 copies
but may renegotiate for 75 copies, only to avoid digging deep into their
pockets. Currently, there are 40 copies ordered. I am sure we can
reach the magic 75 if we just have an all out campaign to promote their
book. I know it’s a pricey book compared to the current bestsellers but
often get tossed out after one or two readings. Cora‘s and Chuchi‘s book
is designed for reflection, posterity and for the next Q-generations to treasure
this biographical heirloom. It’s a book we Quisumbings will hold dear to
our hearts.
Let’s also look at the book’s price with a different
approach. Visualize saving 1 Dollar each day for 61 days. The idea
makes this book absolutely affordable. Another angle to convince you is
that we aren’t buying just a book but instead purchasing our life’s mirrors of
our past branching out to become a huge family tree. This book brings out the
past looking straight at us as we - the present - feel the fleeting sadness
momentarily, then savor the joy as we recapture our ancestors’ glories or
sadness of days gone by. And so here I am, in my humble way, asking for
your strong Support to help these ladies to promote and buy their book. I
would appreciate it very much if you could share this letter or news to your
relatives here and abroad. To some of you who may be attending the
Quisumbing Reunion in Makati, you’re welcome to distribute copies of this letter
to all the Qs. Thank you, po.
As an added bonus, the new book
according to Cora “will be a perfect Christmas present.” The Quisumbing Past is
definitely coming to us in the form of a Book. Funny, the timing adds
similarity to a literary twist from a famous classic, “A Christmas Carol.“ But I
can assure you ours is more real and endearing and definitely
non-haunting. In fact, this Christmas, I will do away with my annual
reading of “ ‘twas the night before Christmas...” but instead will listen
closely to the sweet sound of the HQ-book’s flipped pages. And I hope as I
attempt for a true Quisumbing Christmas spirit pleasantly buoyed by stories from
this book, the seated listeners at home will finally show the anticipated
sparkles in their eyes. It’s too early yet but I hope you too have a
similar bliss this Christmas.
Maraming Salamat
Po!
Sincerely,
/s/Andy F. Quisumbing
